7th International Crop Science Congress (2016)
On August 15, 2016, commissioned by the International Crop Science Society, the 7th International Crop Science Congress opened at the Beijing International Convention Center, co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the Crop Science Society of China (CSSC), and organized by ICS-CAAS.
Recognized as the “Olympics” of crop science, this 7th congress was the first time China had been awarded hosting rights. With the theme “Crop Science—Innovation and Sustainability,” the meeting featured 19 plenary lectures, more than 300 parallel presentations, and over 900 posters, alongside vibrant product exhibitions and a variety of technical visits. The congress brought together over 2,000 crop science professionals from more than 70 countries to share the latest advances in crop research and to discuss future directions for the discipline and industry.
As a core component of agricultural science, crop science underpins global food and nutrition security, the sustainable use of agricultural resources, and effective protection of the agricultural environment. Hosting this congress helped strengthen exchange and cooperation between China’s crop scientists and industry practitioners and their international peers, showcase China’s new achievements in crop research, enhance the international collaboration and innovation capacity of China’s crop-science community, and promote technological progress and the overall strength of the crop industry.
The congress was co-organized by China Agricultural University, the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Nanjing Agricultural University, Northwest A&F University, Shandong Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Northeast Agricultural University, and the Chinese Society of Agronomy, with strong support from the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).
