World Soybean Research Conference VIII (2009)
In August 2009, the five-day World Soybean Research Conference VIII (WSRC VIII) concluded at the Beijing International Convention Center. The conference was co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the Crop Science Society of China (CSSC), organized by ICS-CAAS, and co-organized by multiple partner institutions.
A total of 2,176 delegates from 38 countries and regions attended, setting a record for participation. Discussions covered soybean germplasm resources, genetic breeding, cultivation physiology, storage and processing, and trade policies. Three special forums were convened on the soybean industry, technology demonstration households, and wild soybean conservation. The program featured 19 invited plenary lectures and 329 parallel-session presentations, alongside the China International Soybean Industry Exhibition, which showcased new varieties and technologies.
The conference strengthened international exchange, showcased China’s advances in soybean research, and contributed to enhancing China’s innovation capacity in soybean science, advancing industrial progress, and supporting the sustained development of the soybean sector.
